Job summary

City of Miami Gardens is seeking a Service Worker I to perform public works maintenance and canal-related duties under regular supervision. Responsibilities include litter pickup, canal maintenance, and assisting in construction projects, with CDL and safety certifications required within specified timelines.

The role involves operating a variety of tools and equipment, working near waterways, and maintaining safe work zones. Strong communication with supervisors and the public is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of public works or large-scale construction/maintenance experience preferred.
• Must obtain a valid Florida Class B CDL with N endorsement within 12 months.
• OSHA trench safety certificate must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform litter and trash pickup and disposal along waterways.
• Inspect canal systems for aquatic plant encroachment and assist herbicide applications.
• Operate small vessels to remove debris along waterways.
• Repair, reconstruct and maintain canal crossings, drainage systems and catch-basins.
• Perform ground maintenance along canal rights-of-way: planting, mowing, weeding, sign installation and pesticide application.
• Assist in laying out construction projects and pouring concrete.
• Adhere to safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work site.
• Respond to emergencies 24 hours a day.
