Job summary

The City of Portsmouth is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to maintain and repair storm drain lines and drainage structures using a range of motorized equipment and hand tools. You will work under the Stormwater Division to ensure safe, efficient operations in city streets and facilities.

Applicants should have a CDL-B or ability to obtain one, 2–3 years of relevant experience, and the stamina for heavy physical work. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring safety-focused teamwork.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of 10th grade or higher; high school diploma preferred.
• Requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class-B or ability to obtain one within 90 days.
• Requires 2–3 years of experience operating motorized equipment or performing street/ drainage repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of motorized equipment and hand tools to maintain storm drain lines and drainage structures.
• Inspect job sites, determine equipment/materials needed, and document work performed.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Assist with traffic management and coordinate with supervisor on workload.
