Job summary

The City of Norfolk's Department of Public Works seeks an Equipment Operator III for the Environmental Storm Water Management division to operate street sweepers, dump and vacuum trucks, backhoes, and related equipment. This full-time role supports maintenance of the City’s storm water infrastructure and roads.

Requirements include a valid CDL, a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Requires valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Two years experience as an Equipment Operator or completion of a City apprenticeship program.
• Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy construction equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, street sweepers, vacuum trucks, and other machinery.
• Transports workers, equipment, and materials to job sites.
• Maintains ponds and BMPs, lays pipe, cleans ditches, and performs related maintenance.
• Supervises field crew on occasion and ensures safety standards are met.
