SALARY: $27.14 - $32.32 Hourly

We are accepting applications to fill one Storekeeper (Temporary) vacancy for the County of Santa Barbara. The current vacancy is in the Fire Department. Incumbent will typically work 30-40 hours per week.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a Civil Service Rule (CSR) 905 Extra Help Appointment. An extra-help appointment is defined as an appointment made to a non-regular, non-permanent position established on a temporary basis to meet peak loads, unusual work situations, seasonal and recurrent work, intermittent assignments, or emergencies. This position is exempt from the Provisions of the Civil Service Rules.

BENEFITS: will be offered once EHX employees reach Affordable Care Act (ACA) eligibility.

POSITION:

Under general supervision, the selected candidate maintains the department's storeroom, including stocking of operational materials and supplies, inventory control and recordkeeping, and purchasing; moves office furniture and equipment; and performs related duties as required.

  • Plans and performs work that involves ordering, receiving, inspecting, returning, unloading, shelving, packing, labeling, pricing, delivering, and maintaining a perpetual inventory of forms, office supplies, and various types of equipment.
  • Rotates stock and arranges for disposal of surplus.
  • Keeps records to maintain inventory control, cost containment, and to assure proper stock levels.
  • Coordinates freight handling, equipment and furniture moving, and minor repairs.
  • Oversees mail handling and courier service.
  • To accomplish job duties, uses a computer and operate automotive equipment; may operate a forklift, or other light equipment.
  • Two years of experience in storekeeping, inventory control, and recordkeeping; OR,
  • One year of experience performing duties equivalent to the class of Utility Clerk, Departmental with Santa Barbara County; OR,
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Qualifications:

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.

Knowledge of:

storekeeping and inventory control procedures; recordkeeping and other standard office procedures; care and maintenance of equipment and supplies; safety and security practices; basic mechanical concepts; work and time management techniques; public contact and communication techniques.

Ability to:

read, interpret, and carry out written and oral instructions; write legibly; use a computer to prepare written correspondence and maintain routine records, reports and forms; estimate department needs; determine the quality and quantity of materials received in relation to prescribed specifications; perform accurate arithmetical calculations; work under pressure; maintain good working relationships with supervisors, peers, and the public; organize and prioritize work; interpret information contained in parts and service manuals; understand and utilize technical repair terminology and concepts; use a calculator, and operate light machinery that may include a forklift; observe safe work and driving practices.

Physical Conditions

Must be physically able to lift heavy items up to 50 pounds above and below shoulder height, climb ladders and perform continuous standing, walking, reaching, and bending.
