Job summary

The State of Iowa seeks a warehouse/storekeeper to manage distribution of supplies within the facility, including food, clothing, equipment, and merchandise. You will pull items, verify accuracy, operate forklifts/pallet jacks, and ensure proper paperwork is completed.

As a supervisor for inmate crews, you will maintain daily timecards, provide orientation, and coordinate with departments to ensure timely deliveries while maintaining inventory integrity.

Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time work experience in clerical, inventory, stores, supply, or warehousing work.
  • Experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a storekeeper 1.
  • Period after hire may require obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements.
  • Compliance with E-Verify and Right to Work laws.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute all food, clothing, equipment and other merchandise to the facility.
  • Operate vehicles to pickup and deliver supplies from the warehouse to locations inside the institution.
  • Deliver pass-through items to the ordering department and verify items pulled.
  • Pull inventoried items listed on staff orders and stack on carts/pallets.
  • Verify correct items have been pulled and deliver to the appropriate department.
  • Have staff verify and sign for delivered items and return signed forms to the warehouse.
  • Return signed paperwork and adjust inventory as needed.
  • Receive deliveries/shipments by checking against packing slips and inspecting for damage.
  • Record receipt dates and rotate stock as items are stored.
  • Enter inventory into the computerized system and generate purchase orders.

Job description

Distribute all food, clothing, equipment and other merchandise to the facility.


  • Operates vehicles in the pickup and delivery of supplies from the warehouse to locations inside the institution.

  • Deliver pass through items to the ordering department.

  • Pull inventoried items listed on staff orders.

  • Stack items to be delivered on carts or pallets.

  • Verify that items have been pulled correctly.

  • Deliver items to the appropriate department.

  • Have staff verify and sign for the delivered items.

  • Returned signed order forms to the warehouse and adjust inventory accordingly.


Receive deliveries/shipments


  • Check items delivered against the packing slip.

  • Verify that no items in shipment are damaged.

  • Report any discrepancies to the driver and note on applicable paperwork.

  • Mark stock with receipt date.

  • Put inventoried items away using the appropriate equipment (forklift, pallet jack, ladders) making sure to rotate stock.

  • Set pass through items aside for delivery later.

  • Distribute the packing slips to the business office and adjust inventory accordingly.


Provides work assignments to a crew of inmates, supervising and instructing when necessary


Maintain daily timecards on crew


Pat searches inmates


Provide orientation to new inmates assigned to work crew


Enter inventory information into computerized inventory system


Generate purchase orders

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:



  1. Two years of full-time work experience in full-time clerical, inventory, stores, supply, or warehousing work.

Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and endorsements.
