Job summary

State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking a storekeeper to manage inventory, receive and distribute supplies, and supervise inmate work crews within a correctional facility. The role involves operating forklifts and pallet jacks, ensuring accurate orders, and maintaining stock records.

The position requires prior warehousing experience in a correctional or similar setting, ability to work with inmates, and adherence to safety protocols. CDL may be required after hire.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time work experience in clerical, inventory, stores, supply, or warehousing work.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a storekeeper 1.

Responsibilities

• Operate vehicles for pickup and delivery of supplies from the warehouse to locations inside the institution.
• Distribute all food, clothing, equipment, and other merchandise to the facility.
• Pull inventoried items listed on staff orders.
• Stack items to be delivered on carts or pallets and verify correct pulling.
• Deliver items to the appropriate department and have staff verify and sign for delivery.
• Return signed order forms to the warehouse and adjust inventory accordingly.
• Receive deliveries/shipments and check against packing slips.
• Verify no items are damaged and mark stock with receipt date.
• Operate equipment (forklift, pallet jack, ladders) to store items and rotate stock.
• Enter inventory information into computerized system and generate purchase orders.
• Provide orientation to new inmates assigned to work crew and supervise work assignments.

• Operates vehicles in the pickup and delivery of supplies from the warehouse to locations

inside the institution.

• Deliver pass through items to the ordering department.
• Pull inventoried items listed on staff orders.
• Stack items to be delivered on carts or pallets.
• Verify that items have been pulled correctly.
• Deliver items to the appropriate department.
• Have staff verify and sign for the delivered items.
• Returned signed order forms to the warehouse and adjust inventory accordingly.

Receive deliveries/shipments

• Check items delivered against the packing slip.
• Verify that no items in shipment are damaged.
• Report any discrepancies to the driver and note on applicable paperwork.
• Mark stock with receipt date.
• Put inventoried items away using the appropriate equipment (forklift, pallet jack, ladders)

making sure to rotate stock.

• Set pass through items aside for delivery later.
• Distribute the packing slips to the business office and adjust inventory accordingly.

Provides work assignments to a crew of inmates, supervising and instructing when necessary

Maintain daily timecards on crew

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

• Two years of full-time work experience in full-time clerical, inventory, stores, supply, or warehousing work.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a storekeeper 1
