Job Location: Charlottesville, VA 22903
Position Type: Part Time (20 hours per week) — Tuesday through Saturday
Salary Range: $16.00 per hour
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville is a nonprofit housing and community development organization that partners with low-income families, volunteers, and the community to create affordable homes and promote housing solutions. Habitat is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI).
Position Summary
The Retail Associate is responsible for processing donations, maintaining and organizing work areas, leading volunteers, and supporting retail operations of The Habitat Store with superior customer service and professionalism.
- Screen community member drop-off donations for acceptability and unload professionally and efficiently
- Ensure donation processing systems are implemented and items are prepared for display
- Load customer purchases safely and professionally
- Provide friendly, professional and personalized customer service on the sales floor to drive sales and ensure an optimal customer/donor experience
- Work with Warehouse Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and Store Manager to plan/implement daily volunteer tasks and ensure a positive volunteer experience
- Effectively train and supervise volunteers and volunteer groups
- Maintain a clean store and warehouse through sweeping, proper merchandising, and housekeeping
- Ensure store, donations area, and warehouse are stocked with supplies at all times with input from Store Assistant Manager or Operations Manager
- Make miscellaneous repairs to damaged but valuable donations
- Be knowledgeable about Habitat’s mission and convey it effectively to customers, donors, and volunteers
- Adhere to safety procedures and ensure a safe environment for customers, donors, staff, and volunteers
- Adhere to all store policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by Warehouse Coordinator, Store Manager or Operations Manager
Qualifications
- Experience in retail sales
- Professional demeanor and attitude befitting a public representative
- Ability to work well with volunteers and supervise them effectively
- Knowledge of Google platform
- High level of strategic thinking
- Professional appearance befitting the public face of Habitat
- Driver’s License and insurable driving record
- General knowledge of carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, types of wood, etc. preferred
- Basic knowledge of power tools preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs consistently; 75 lbs occasionally, and be on feet for long periods in extreme temperatures
- Prolonged periods of talking, standing, walking
- Ability to climb ladders to add or remove merchandise from shelving or chains hanging from ceiling
