Job summary

Houchens Food Group is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to oversee day-to-day store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. The role focuses on maximizing sales and profitability while controlling expenses, ensuring optimal stock and merchandising, and delivering exceptional customer service.

The position requires leadership experience in retail, strong communication, and the ability to coach and develop staff, with a focus on achieving performance goals and maintaining store standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience in a retail or customer service setting.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train and develop store staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide ongoing performance feedback, and recognize accomplishments.
• Review evaluations with store management to identify opportunities and correct issues with urgency.
• Coordinate supervision of staff to meet sales goals and follow company procedures.
• Delegate workload to meet merchandising and visual standards.
• Participate in associate evaluations to provide feedback, praise and growth opportunities.
• Complete merchandising updates according to Houchens Ace Hardware standards.
• Work with vendors to develop merchandising strategies and planograms.
• Forecast scheduling needs to meet demand and create work schedules.
• Monitor payroll to ensure budgets; take corrective actions as needed.
• Review staffing needs with Store Manager and HR/Ops Directors.
• Develop and implement in-store marketing strategies including promotions and seasonal merchandising.
• Other tasks as directed by supervision.
• Promote Customer Service as the #1 Priority and coach staff to achieve this.
