Job summary

Town Pump is looking for a motivated and outgoing Store Manager Trainee to join our team in Billings, Montana. You will train with the store manager and/or co-manager to learn the full operation of the store and develop supervisory skills aligned with Town Pump standards.

You will handle daily bookwork, order and stock merchandise, assist with hiring and training, manage expenses, and help maintain store security and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

• No formal degree required; willingness to learn.
• Retail or convenience store operations experience preferred.
• Ability to train and mentor team.

Responsibilities

• Train with store manager and/or co-manager to learn store operations.
• Understand controllable expenses, sales, margins, and promotions.
• Maintain professionalism and teamwork in customer service and store operations.
• Act as store manager during the manager's absence when needed.
• Complete daily bookwork recording employee, inventory, and sales data.
• Order and merchandise, inventory, pricing, stocking, and display activities.
• Perform light store maintenance and basic repairs, banking deposits and cleaning.
• Assist with hiring, training, and orientation of new employees; disciplinary actions as needed.
• Maintain security of store assets including cash, fuel, and inventories.
• Maintain a valid Driver’s License and driving record; perform other duties as assigned by management.

As a Store Manager Trainee, You Will

• train with the store manager and /or co-manager, to learn the overall operation of the store. Areas to be trained on include but are not limited to, learning to make supervisory decisions that are consistent with Town Pump standards, policies, and procedures.
• understand controllable expenses, sales increases, inside gross margins, shortage controls, and promotional programs.
• set an exemplary example for co-workers in terms of professionalism, attitude, and teamwork in the areas of customer service and Convenience Store Operations. Customer service includes communicating with customers and resolving complaints and inquiries.
• serve as an acting store manager during the store manager’s absence (when the co-manager is not available)
• complete daily bookwork using a computer to record employee information, inventory, and sale information.
• order supplies and merchandise, inventory merchandise, invoicing merchandise, key in daily sales, merchandising, including receiving, pricing, stocking, displaying, and rotating inventories.
• complete store maintenance and basic repairs, make bank deposits, and perform light cleaning of the store and restrooms.
• provide new employee hiring, training, and orientation. Disciplining and/or terminating problem employees.
• maintain security of all store assets. Control of cash, fuel, and inventories. Control of store merchandise and labor hours.
• maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and complete other duties assigned by management.
