Job summary

Dollar General Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in daily operations, including staffing, inventory management, merchandising, and cash handling. This role focuses on developing external candidates for the Store Manager track and ensuring store needs are met efficiently.

Responsibilities include assisting with opening/closing, maintaining safe, clean stores, and providing strong customer service leadership while adhering to company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
• Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred in some locations.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising by staging, stocking and pricing merchandise and using fixtures.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management including damages, markdowns, and paperwork.
• Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Act as a role model by following company procedures and policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of all company funds in the designated bank.
• Assist in cash control and security practices.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment.
• Operate the store in the manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation on time.
