Job summary

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Melbourne, FL is seeking a part-time team member to help customers, ring up sales, and stock donations.

This role requires a High School diploma or GED, at least one year of cashiering or retail experience, and physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds; schedule Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., totaling 29 hours weekly.

Job Location: FLA-Melbourne Thrift - Melbourne, FL, Position Type: Part Time with Benefits 20 or More, Salary Range: $15.00 - $15.00Hourly, Job Shift: Day, Job Category: Store, Schedule/Hours: Tues - Sat. 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (29 Hours per week. Part-Time)

This position is responsible for:

• Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
• Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
• Prepares non-suitable clothes for bailer.
• Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
• Assists customers in purchasing items from The Salvation Army Store by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items.
• Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area.
• Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Physical ability to life and carry and/or push/pull light objects up to 25 pounds.
• Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred, And At least one (1) year experience cashiering or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
