Job summary

The Salvation Army Fort Pierce Thrift Store is seeking a Store Clerk for a temporary full-time position (40 hours/week, some Saturdays). You will assist customers with donations, selections, and purchases, operate the cash register, and maintain store cleanliness and displays.

You will sort donated items, price for display, and help prepare items for sale in the warehouse. Lifting, walking, and standing are required in a busy retail environment with some noise and weather exposure.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• At least 1 year experience cashiering or in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ring up sales at the cash register and handle cash accurately.
• Collect monies, count change, and provide receipts.
• Receive, inspect, and sort donated items by category and condition.
• Assist customers with donations, selections, and purchases.
• Maintain neat displays and ensure security of items and the register.
• Lift and move items; keep warehouse and stock areas clean and orderly.

Schedule/Hours: TEMPORARY/Full Time - 40 hours per week (some Saturdays required). This position is for the Fort Pierce Thrift Store.This position is responsible for:The Store Clerk function assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers’ questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.The Sorting Room function entails receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.Key Responsibilities:Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register.Collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register printouts.Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsWork requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting.Work is performed in a stock room, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather.
