  • Preparing clear and concise inventory records and reports.
  • Using initiative to find best pricing when ordering supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a medium-size storeroom stocking medical, dental, and office supplies and equipment.
  • Lift 65 pounds or more repeatedly during shifts.
  • Create requisitions for supply purchases and submit orders to multiple vendors.
  • Maintain records of items received and dispensed to departments.
  • Check received items for damage before acceptance or distribution.
  • Coordinate with vendors for replacement or credit for damaged/missing items.
  • Rotate stock during delivery to shelves or containers.
  • Provide support to Juvenile Hall when necessary.
  • Operate a dolly, push carts, pallet jack to move heavy items.
  • Operate a County vehicle to pick up/deliver parts and supplies.
  • Deliver/pick up equipment, items from labs, hospitals, and jail facilities.
  • Participate in defensive driving classes annually.
  • Perform other work as assigned.

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

This recruitment will establish an open eligible list to fill current and future Store Clerk positions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE AGENCY

The County of Orange, Health Care Agency (HCA) is a dynamic organization dedicated to creating and supporting an environment that promotes the achievement of optimal individual, family, and community health.Under the leadership of the Agency Director, a dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of five (5) service areas -Administrative Services, Behavioral Health Services, Correctional Health Services, Specialized Medical Services and Public Health Services -is committed to meeting the health needs of the diverse Orange County community.

THE PROGRAM

Correctional Health Services (CHS) is comprised of two separate entities. Adult Correctional Health Services (ACHS) provides medical, dental, nursing, infection control, health education and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care and provides mental health services, including 24-hour emergency triage and crisis intervention, suicide prevention, treatment beds, individual and group therapy, substance use counseling, medication assessment and discharge planning to all adult inmates in the County's five (5) correctional facilities. Juvenile Health Services (JHS) provides medical, nursing, dental and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care for youth who reside in the County’s four (4) residential facilities operated by OC Probation and Social Services Agency (SSA).

THE OPPORTUNITY

CHS is seeking a Store Clerk to independently perform a combination of physical, manual, and office work in receiving, storing, and dispensing supplies or equipment within the County's correctional facilities. The position will report to a Sr. Storekeeper.

  • Operate a medium-size storeroom stocking a variety of medical, dental, and office supplies, and equipment.
  • Repeatedly lifting 65 or more pounds, multiple times throughout shift. Some of the items that require lifting include, but are not limited to furniture, cases of copy paper, medical equipment, and miscellaneous supplies.
  • Create requisitions for supply purchases and submit orders to multiple vendors
  • Maintain records of items received and dispensed to particular areas
  • Check received items for damage before accepting delivery or distributing to departments
  • Coordinate with vendors for replacement or credit for items that are damaged or missing
  • Maintain records using computer software programs, i.e. Word, Excel, inventory systems, etc.
  • Rotate stock when delivering goods onto shelves or into cabinets, containers, refrigerator, or freezers
  • Provide support to Juvenile Hall when necessary
  • Operate a dolly, push carts, pallet jack to move heavy objects and furniture
  • Operate a County vehicle to pick up/deliver parts, supplies, and other miscellaneous products
  • Deliver/pick up:
    • Equipment that requires repair from multiple repair vendors
    • Items from Orange County Lab, Orange County Public Health Department, Orange County Sheriff's Department (locations vary) UCI, or other contract laboratories within Orange County
    • Products at contracted hospital(s) or other medical facilities
    • Medical/pharmacy and equipment to all five (5) jails
    • Equipment, furniture, and medical supplies to the County of Orange surplus department as needed
  • Participate in the County of Orange defensive driving classes annually
  • Perform other work as assigned
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently. The ideal candidate will also have experience in operating and maintaining a storeroom or similar institutional type of setting (e.g. warehouse experience). In addition, the ideal candidate will also have extensive experience in the following core competencies:

  • Being aware of any environmental hazards while working inside and outside the jail facility
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Applicants must NOT have felony convictions or be on any form of probation
  • Must be able to pass and maintain background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner. Background screening includes; completing a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use and credit problems, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts. Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Services (N.A.C.E.S.)
  • The Correctional facilities are a 24-hour, 7 day a week facility, incumbents must be able to work on weekends, evenings or night shift, and holidays if needed.
  • There is a No Hostage policy for the Orange County jail.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
