County of Orange's Social Services Agency and Probation Department seek a dedicated Laundry Worker to receive, sort, wash, dry linen and clothing, and restock items across multiple facilities. The role ensures hygiene compliance for youth in Juvenile Hall and related centers.

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.
This recruitment will establish an open eligible list that will be used to fill current and future Laundry Worker positions. The eligible list established may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

Orange County Probation Department assists the criminal justice system in Orange County, California by making a safer Orange County through positive change. Under the direction of the Chief Probation Officer and an executive team with an organizational structure comprised of four bureaus – Adult Operations, Juvenile Operations, Strategic Development, and Administrative Services, the Department impacts the community by using efficient, evidence-based and research supported practices to reduce crime and assist the Courts in managing offenders. Probation staff work diligently to protect the safety of the community, assist victims, and provide growth opportunities to clients, at-risk community members, and justice involved individuals.
The Laundry Worker is responsible for receiving, sorting, washing, drying linen and/or soiled laundry, folding, pressing, sorting clothes and linens, and issuing of laundry items to the Orangewood Children and Family Center facility or OC Probation Department. The position inspects, sorts, and folds clean laundry by article, color, and size, and delivers and restocks clothing items in designated storage areas across multiple department locations. This position is also responsible to fill clothing orders, expedite the delivery as requested, and perform inventory of clothes and personal hygiene items. This position plays a vital role in ensuring hygiene compliance for all youth housed in Juvenile Hall, camps, residential facilities and the Orangewood Children and Family Center.
Additional responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Social Services Agency - The typical shift of the position is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and may work during weekends and holidays.
Orange County Probation - The typical shift of the position is 6:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and may work during weekends and holidays.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience related to the following competencies:
Social Services Agency Candidates will be required to undergo a background clearance check from California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and Community Care Licensing (CCL) and must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Areas considered in the background check include conviction history, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts) if applicable. Foreign degrees require an evaluation of US equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Services (N.A.C.E.S.). In addition, a Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) background clearance check may be required. CACI is a repository of child abuse investigation reports managed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that contains information related to substantiated cases of physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental/emotional abuse, and/or severe neglect of a child.
Probation Department Positions within the County of Orange Probation Department will be required to undergo an extensive background investigation including but not limited to, contacting current and/or previous employers, reference checks, criminal searches, verification of credentials, review of credit history, and review of all previous law enforcement applications and/or backgrounds. Any falsification of information or failure to meet the standards listed above will result in disqualification.
Human Resource Services (HRS) will screen all application materials to identify qualified applicants. After screening, qualified applicants will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the competition.

An Application Appraisal Panel (AAP) of job knowledge experts will thoroughly screen and evaluate the application, and supplemental questionnaire for job knowledge, competencies, and related experience described above. Only the most qualified candidates will advance to the next step in the recruitment process or will be placed on the eligible list.
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies. Based on the County's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedures.
