Job summary

Indiana State Prison in Indiana is seeking a Store Clerk to support the commissary operations by stocking, disbursing, and controlling goods for incarcerated individuals. This role includes transporting supplies from the warehouse to the commissary and supervising inmates assisting with these tasks.

The position requires strong knowledge of inventory procedures, stock handling, and safety rules, plus the ability to train inmates and staff in equipment use and storage practices.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of requisitioning and disbursing procedures, consumption rates of stored items and inventory control procedures.
• Thorough knowledge of stock items, their locations and the proper methods of storing a variety of goods and supplies based upon efficient space utilization and a variety of state and federal regulations.
• Effective communication skills.
• Practical knowledge of state regulations in handling and storing foodstuffs and perishables.
• Ability to train inmates and staff in proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage.
• Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory and purchasing records.
• Ability to operate forklift, hand-truck and other mechanical equipment in warehouse.
• Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

About Indiana State Prison

Indiana State Prison is a level‑four maximum‑security facility located in Michigan City, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,400 incarcerated adult males. As the oldest correctional facility in the state, it has a long history and operates on a secured 24‑acre campus with ten manned towers. The prison grounds also include a level‑two facility with a capacity of 385 incarcerated adult males. Staff maintain a clean, orderly environment while prioritizing safety and security. Programs available to incarcerated individuals support personal development and re‑entry preparation where applicable. Role Overview

As a Store Clerk at the Indiana State Prison, you will perform a wide variety of tasks in the overall operation of the commissary which involves stocking, disbursing, and controlling goods and supplies for incarcerated individuals. This includes transporting supplies from the warehouse to the commissary and supervising incarcerated individuals in assisting with these tasks.

Salary

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:
