Summary

The Mechanic works independently and with other plant personnel to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. This role includes troubleshooting issues, repairing failures of production and facilities equipment, and ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. This person provides direction for effective execution of maintenance activity on all machinery and equipment throughout the plant and office facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for the optimum utilization of available resources such as manpower, equipment, time, etc. This person must be responsible for decisions, actions and failures; must establish clear responsibilities and processes for monitoring work and measuring results. In addition, the maintenance mechanic must partner with others to get work done and work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Wash out storage bins.
  • Perform snow removal duties.
  • Conduct light electrical repairs.
  • Carry out welding tasks as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems (480V, 24V, 120V).
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment control issues.
  • Collaborate with other departments to complete maintenance tasks.
Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • 3+ years of related experience or training.
  • Experience with:
  • 480V power systems.
  • 24V and 120V control voltages.
  • Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and planning skills.
Other Information

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanics; Basic electrical repair in an industrial/manufacturing environment; Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings and write detailed repair reports; Ability to analyze and make decisions; Ability to diagram equipment control problems; Strong verbal and written English communication skills; Good organizational and planning skills.

Preferred: Experience with 480 volt power and 24 control voltages to 120 volt electrical troubleshooting; Program and trouble shoot Allen Bradley SLC500 and MicroLogix series. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory, and represent the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Physical Requirements: Lift and move heavy equipment; Climb ladders and work in high, precarious places. Working Environment: May be exposed to wet or humid conditions; May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions; May be exposed to high noise environments; May be exposed to chemicals used in the process; Could be in temperatures of -5 degrees.
