Job summary

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Principal Storage Engineer III to support mission-critical government programs. This role focuses on enterprise storage, data management, and storage infrastructure across complex environments in the Huntsville area, with sponsorship considerations for Top Secret clearance.

Qualified candidates bring 10+ years of storage experience, TS clearance or eligibility, and vendor certifications.

Qualifications

• 10+ years storage experience in enterprise environments.
• Active Top-Secret Clearance or eligible required.
• Advanced mainstream storage vendor certification preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
• Experience with mainframe storage systems using FICON (Fiber Channel) highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support highly available enterprise storage arrays and storage networking equipment.
• Manage NAS/SMB/CIFS, NFS v3/v4 protocols.
• Handle iSCSI and Fibre Channel connections to switches/arrays.
• Understand Windows Server, AD/LDAP/DNS/NTP/Kerberos and their impact on storage access.
• Configure Windows NTFS security, ACLs, and VSS snapshots.
• Apply POSIX ACLs/mode-bits for file system permissions.
• Administer DFS for SMB high availability.
• Utilize Robocopy/Rsync for data migrations.
• Minimize risk with controlled change execution in enterprise environments.
• Understand RAID, storage tiering, deduplication, replication, snapshots.
• Know block, file, and object storage use cases.
• Familiarity with virtualization (VMware vCenter/vSphere/vSAN) and data reduction.
• Experience with Cohesity, Pure Storage, Dell EMC, NetApp, Isilon or Hitachi products is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supporting highly available enterprise grade storage arrays and storage networking equipment.
• NAS/file storage protocols such as SMB/CIFS, NFS v3 and v4.
• ISCSI and/or Fiber Channel Fabric connections to switches and arrays.
• Functional knowledge and experience with Windows Server operating system and Active Directory/LDAP/DNS/NTP/Kerberos - specifically how these affect network file system storage access in Windows.
• Windows NTFS security settings, Windows ACLs, VSS snapshots.
• POSIX OS ACLs/mode-bits as it pertains to file system permissions.
• Managing Windows Distributed File System (DFS) for SMB HA.
• Experience with file-based data migrations utilizing applications like Robocopy and Rsync.
• Methodical approach to change execution and implementation to avoid risk and downtime in an enterprise environment.
• Understanding of storage concepts like RAID, hard disk technology, disk/device tiering (HSM), disk cache, compression, data-deduplication, replication, snapshots, and host multipathing.
• Understanding of block, file, and object-based storage as well as their appropriate use cases.
• Familiarity with virtualization, VMFS, vVols, specifically VMware VCenter/vSphere/vSAN as it pertains to thin provisioning storage and data reduction techniques.
• Experience with any of the following is a plus: Cohesity, Pure Storage Flash Array or FlashBlade, Dell EMC, object protocols (S3), Dell Compellent, Western Digital Intelliflash, NetApp, EMC VNX, Isilon, Hitachi Arrays and Hitachi Command Suite.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of storage related experience.
• Must have active Top-Secret Clearance or be eligible.
• Advanced mainstream storage vendor certification preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
• Experience managing and maintaining mainframe storage systems using the FICON (Fiber Channel Connection) protocol is highly preferred.
