Positions Available - STNA required: Homecare - FT - M-F 8a-430p, every 7th weekend, and 1 holiday rotation
Location: Coldwater, OH Mercer County
Summary of Position: The Hospice Aide provides personal care under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma preferred.
- Completion of 75 hours of state approved aide training consisting of classroom and supervised practical training.
- Does not have a lapse of 24 months of non-compensated aide work.
- Successful completion of competency evaluation within first 4 weeks of employment.
- Successfully pass a mandatory written Hospice Aide test within first 6 weeks of employment.
- Minimum of one year of experience providing personal care in a healthcare setting.
- Hospice experience preferred.
- Active STNA License
Special Skills And Requirements
- Shall have a valid driver’s license.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Detail oriented with excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Travel to other sites as needed. Travel may be in inclement weather.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs of supplies or equipment.
- Requires various amounts of sitting, standing, twisting, turning, bending, lifting and walking.
- Ability to assist with patient care activities such as ambulation, transfers, and positioning.
Responsibilities Of Position
Complete tasks as assigned on the patient’s aide care plan which include:
- Provision of hands on personal care.
- Performance of simple procedures as an extension of therapy or nursing services.
- Assistance in ambulation or exercise.
- Assist the patient and family to learn rehabilitative techniques and promote compliance with established program.
- Perform or assist with activities necessary to maintain a healthful, safe environment.
- Recognize and report promptly to the registered nurse any changes in the mental and/or physical status of the patient. Reporting should be written and oral when appropriate.
Demonstrate Competency In The Following Areas
- Communication with patients, caregivers, and multidisciplinary team.
- Observation, reporting, and documentation of patient status and the care or services furnished.
- Ability to read and record temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Maintenance of effective infection control procedures.
- Identification of basic elements of body function and changes in body function that must be reported to an aide’s supervisor.
- Maintenance of a clean and safe healthy environment. Performing light housekeeping like dusting, vacuuming, dish washing and assisting with patient laundry as requested.
- Recognizing emergencies and knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Ability to understand physical, emotional, and developmental characteristics of the populations served by the hospice aide, including the need for respect for the patient, his or her privacy, and his or her property.
- Ability to use appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming, including: bed bath; sponge, tub, or shower bath; shampoo, sink tub, or bed; nail and skin care; oral hygiene.
- Ability to complete safe transfer techniques and ambulation.
- Ability to utilize principles of adequate nutrition and fluid intake. Assist with preparation of nutritious meals and encourage patient to eat prescribed diet.
- Ability to complete any other task(s) as assigned and supervised by the agency.
- Assist the Primary Nurse with specific assigned procedures.
- Request assistance if unable to perform competently the assigned tasks.
- Work evenings and weekends as needed to meet the needs of the patients and families and agency backup schedule.
- Complete all documentation as required by the organization in compliance with Agency policy, accreditation bodies, and governing requirements.
- Maintain clinical competency for assigned responsibilities and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
