Job summary

Hale Centre Theatre is seeking a skilled Stitcher to join our Costume Shop. The Stitcher constructs, alters, and repairs costumes for stage productions, following direction from the Shop Supervisor, Draper/Tailor, and First Hand.

The role requires strong hand and machine sewing, garment construction, and the ability to manage multiple projects to meet production deadlines. Collaboration with designers, dressers, and production staff is essential in a fast-paced theatre environment.

Qualifications

• Professional experience in hand and machine sewing and garment construction.
• Experience constructing costumes from the ground up.
• Experience altering and fitting men's and women's garments.
• Knowledge of fabrics, sewing techniques, and garment construction methods.
• Experience operating a variety of sewing machines (industrial and domestic).
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Construct costumes from patterns and specifications under supervision.
• Alter, repair, and adjust costumes for proper fit and appearance.
• Sew costumes by hand and machine with various fabrics.
• Follow designs and construction instructions to maintain the intended design.
• Manage multiple projects and meet production deadlines.
• Collaborate with costume shop staff, designers, dressers, and production teams.
• Troubleshoot construction and fit issues efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area; care for tools and equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and adjustments to sewing equipment.
• Be flexible for fittings, dress rehearsals, and tech rehearsals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
