Job Description for Dishwasher/Steward at The Abbey Resort

Basic Function: A steward at The Abbey Resort plays a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. Responsibilities include cleaning pots, pans, plates, and glassware to support the cooks and overall restaurant service. The role also involves keeping the dish pit clean and performing janitorial duties such as sweeping and mopping. An effective dishwasher must be energized, motivated, and attentive to cleanliness standards.

Qualifications: Education, Knowledge, Training, & Work Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with chemicals
• Hardworking with strong organizational skills

Essential Functions:

• Ensure all kettles are cleaned at the start of each shift
• Properly operate and maintain the dish machine according to manufacturer standards
• Receive, scrape, rinse, and rack dishes and utensils
• Unload the dish machine, stack, store, and return dishes to proper areas
• Inspect dishes after cleaning to ensure they are spotless and in good repair
• Wash all pots and pans and store them neatly
• Follow proper sanitation procedures
• Empty garbage cans and maintain cleanliness of the dish area, including floors, walls, and counters
• Sweep and mop floors regularly, replace mats to prevent slips
• Transport soiled ware and return empty trucks as needed
• Wipe down countertops and prep areas for efficiency and cleanliness
• Restock supplies as necessary
• Handle cleaning chemicals safely
• Assist with lifting and moving kitchen equipment as directed
• Meet all sanitation and safety standards

Marginal Functions:

• Interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Perform additional tasks as assigned
• Work hours may vary based on business needs, including holidays and weekends
• Assist cooks with cleaning tasks as needed

Environment:

Inside the main kitchen, standing on hard vinyl floors and mats, in a busy, noisy environment.
