Job summary

Highmark Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, clean, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments for use in patient care areas. You will follow safety policies, perform inspections, and manage records of sterilization cycles.

This role requires a high school diploma, central service certification, and adherence to HIPAA and privacy policies. The position emphasizes compliance, teamwork, and timely delivery of sterile instruments across departments.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; pass a nationally accredited central service exam within 18 months of hire.
• Maintain CRCST or CSPDT certification; CST or Tech in Surgery Certified (TSC) meets license requirement.
• Compliance with HIPAA, privacy policies, and applicable legal standards.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates, cleans, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instruments and equipment.
• Follows safety and infection control policies and uses PPE as required.
• Receives and sorts contaminated instruments from departments.
• Disassembles, cleans, and inspects instruments for cleanliness and function.
• Assembles instrument sets according to count sheets; wraps/Packages for sterilization.
• Monitors sterilization cycles and records results; operates cleaning and automated decontamination equipment.
• Delivers sterile items to requesting departments in a timely manner; maintains a clean workspace.
