Job summary

Atlantic Health System in Morristown, NJ is seeking a dedicated Sterilization Technician responsible for sterilizing and cleaning medical equipment, preparing sterile trays for surgeries, and maintaining inventory.

You will support patient care by ensuring equipment safety, handling infectious waste correctly, and following Standard Precautions. This role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work on a fast-paced shift.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operates sterilization equipment, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies.
• Cares for instruments including selecting cleaning agents and lubricants.
• Peel-packs and wraps instruments, inspects for cleanliness and readiness.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to FSC policies and quality standards.
• Cleans, sets up, sterilizes and distributes instruments on each shift.
• Handles and disposes of infectious waste appropriately.
• Follows Standard Precautions with protective barriers as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job description

Responsible for the sterilization and cleaning of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies. Oversees retrieving contaminated supplies and delivering sterile supplies, maintaining inventory, and preparing sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations, and procedures. Tests and reports any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment's.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization.
2. Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents and lubricants.
3. Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
4. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all FSC policies, procedures and standards and quality of service.
5. Cleans, sets up, sterilizes and distributes instruments as scheduled on each shift.
6. Handles and disposes of infectious waste appropriately.
7. Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses).
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
