Job summary

UF Health Jacksonville is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician Lead to perform decontamination, cleaning, sterilization and reprocessing of patient equipment and surgical instruments. The Lead will mentor staff, support administrator duties, and oversee department operations in the supervisor's absence.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, Central Service Certification within 6 months, and 1–2 years in Sterile Processing; 3–5 years in Level 1 Trauma SPD preferred.

Qualifications

• Pass and maintain Central Service Certification (CBSPD or IAHCSMM) within 6 months of hire.

Overview

Join the Sterile Processing team at UF Health Jacksonville and play a critical role in supporting safe, high-quality patient care within a nationally recognized Level I Trauma Center.

Responsibilities

In this role the Sterile Processing Technician Lead is responsible for performing effective and efficient decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and reprocessing of patient equipment, surgical instruments, and medical supplies, in support of all hospital and clinical areas. Working under the guidance of supervisor or manager, will utilize knowledge and skills to work independently in all job functions. In addition to technician duties the Lead Tech will perform other administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager. Oversees department operation in the absence of the supervisor. Conducts in-service education programs for staff members as necessary and on a routine basis, functions as a mentor to department staff members.

Qualifications

Education

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Licensure/Certifications

Required: Pass and maintain Central Service Certification (CBSPD or IAHCSMM) within 6 months of date of hire or transfer into position.

Preferred: One or more years of Central Service Certification (CBSPD or IAHCSMM).

Experience

Required: 1-2 years of Sterile Processing or equivalent OR experience.

Preferred: 3-5 years of Level 1 Trauma Center SPD or equivalent OR experience.

Necessary Skills

• Knowledge in all aspects of supply/equipment processing, including surgical instrumentation.
• Must possess manual dexterity, computer skills, and be able to work under pressure.
• Knowledge in the use of autoclave, steris, washer/disinfection, sterrad, etc.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must be able to read, spell and do simple math, write clearly and understand written and oral instructions.
• Able to work closely with others in positive ways.
• Be Proficient with functions in a SPD environment.
