Job summary

Baystate Health in Springfield, MA is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join the Sterile Processing Department at Baystate Medical Center. The technician will ensure instruments and supplies are properly decontaminated, sterilized, and prepared for use, collaborating with OR staff to support safe patient care.

The role involves decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and instrument tracking, with opportunities for Level II responsibilities and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and comprehend English language.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain quality in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, test, assemble, package, wrap, and sterilize reusable surgical instruments, trays, basins, supplies and medical devices.
• Operate and maintain decontamination equipment, automated washers, ultrasonic washers, steam sterilizers and low-temperature gas plasma sterilizers.
• Document sterilization parameters, test results, processing records and other required information for quality and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare surgical case carts and pick supplies and instrumentation using preference cards and FIFO inventory.
• Use instrument tracking system to scan and route kits, loaners, peel packs and processed items.
