Job summary

BJC HealthCare's St. Peters Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing team member to support surgical services, prepare instruments, clean and sterilize equipment, assemble case trays, and assist during the perioperative process.

The role requires a high school diploma, familiarity with sterile processing workflows, and offers a full-time schedule with evening hours (4:00pm–12:30am) and a comprehensive benefits package through BJC Total Rewards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: less than 2 years.
• Licenses & Certifications: Certification/licensure in area of expertise.
• Preferred: 2–5 years experience in sterile processing.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instruments sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
• Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
• Follows proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process.
• Disassembles, decontaminates, and processes instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards.
• Transports patients with any necessary materials and documents to treat or diagnose.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital proudly serves the health care needs of families in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. The 102-bed community hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services including the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, the Breast Health and Women’s Center, the Cardiology Center, the Neurosurgery Center and the Outpatient Surgery and Endoscopy Center.

Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital is an Accredited Chest Pain Center and carries a Level II stroke certification. Additionally, the hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, dermatology, surgery and pulmonology. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital also offers outpatient services including physical therapy, a sleep lab, and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation.

Role Purpose

Function as a team member in the operating room to support medical and nursing staff during the pre, intra, and post-operative phase, including preparing equipment and supplies for use by the medical team, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and reusable supplies, assembling case carts/trays and performing direct patient care as needed.
