Job summary

Children's of Alabama is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician at the Main Campus for the Evening Shift (2:30pm–11pm), Monday–Friday, full-time. You will perform decontamination, disinfection, sterilization and packaging of reusable surgical instruments, handling and storage of sterile supplies, and document activities to regulatory standards.

This role requires knowledge of microbiology, infection control, and inventory management systems.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
1 year job experience as Staff Level with specialization in Sterilization.
Certified Sterile Processing Technician or Certified Registered Central Service Technician preferred.
Understanding of microbiology and infection control practices.
Knowledge of sterilization methods including steam, plasma, and chemical agents.
Ability to use inventory software and document compliance.

Responsibilities

Perform decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of instruments.
Prepare and distribute sterile supplies to OR and departments.
Operate steam sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, and hydrogen peroxide sterilizers.
Document processes and maintain accurate records per FDA/CDC/AAMI/JCAHO.
Maintain inventory of instruments and chemical agents.
Act as resource for OR staff on instrument care.
Ensure compliance with infection control practices.
