Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays and equipment. You will work under supervision and ensure clean, organized sterile processing in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires basic computer skills, strong communication, and reliable attendance. An entry-level candidate may be considered, with required certifications pursued within 18 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduate of a Sterile Processing and/or Surgical Technology program preferred.
• Within 18 months must attain CRCST and/or CBSPD certification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates efficient decontamination, inspection, and cleaning of surgical instruments and devices.
• Uses sterile processing chemicals according to manufacturer’s instructions.
• Dons and doffs appropriate personal protection equipment.
• Assembles accurate/complete surgical trays.
• Monitors building of case carts for emergent, urgent, and elective cases.
• Maintains sterilization records and participates in sterilizer testing.

Performs a variety of duties in relationship to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays/sets, equipment, and supplies with direct supervision. Performs routine cleaning such as wiping down tables. Participates in distribution of operating room supplies and trays/sets. Performs all tasks as assigned in a neat and organized manner. Maintains and prevents cross contamination by observing dress codes, environmental policies, and traffic control.

• 6 months relevant clinical experience

Certification Summary

Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrates efficient skills in decontamination, inspection, and cleaning of surgical instruments, flexible scopes, and respiratory devices according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
• Uses sterile processing chemicals according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
• Dons and doffs appropriate personal protection equipment.
• Assembles accurate/complete surgical trays.
• Participates with and monitors process of building accurate and timely assembling of case carts for emergent/urgent and elective cases.
• Assists with maintaining department sterilization records.
• Participates in sterilizer test parameters monitoring, e.g., bowie dick test, biologicals, and other forms of sterilization testing and responds appropriately to sterilization that does not pass.
• Supports operating room functions in sterile core.
• Fosters positive working relationships across departments and campuses with patients, physicians, families, visitors, coworkers, and vendors.
• Complies with all applicable regulations, standards, and recommendations.
• Follows hospital and departmental safety instructions, policies, and procedures.
• Attends 75% of staff meetings/communication and job-related educational opportunities.
