Job summary

Akicita Federal is hiring Medical Supply Technicians to deliver sterile processing services for the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM. You will protect patient safety by ensuring surgical instruments and medical supplies are properly decontaminated, sterilized, and ready for use across inpatient and outpatient services serving American Indian communities.

This is meaningful, hands-on work in a high-volume federal healthcare facility, requiring strict safety, privacy, and infection

Qualifications

• Prior experience in Indian Health Service or federal healthcare facilities.
• Familiarity with HIPAA and handling protected health information (PHI).
• Advanced SPD certification or formal SPD training completed.
• Experience in high-volume sterile processing environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-cycle SPD operations including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution.
• Operate sterilization equipment following JCAHO/CMS/AAAHC standards.
• Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays per facility protocols.
• Maintain accurate decontamination and sterilization records for compliance.
• Adhere to PPE and infection control protocols in decontamination areas.
• Coordinate supply inventory to support uninterrupted clinical operations.
• Demonstrate cultural awareness when interacting with IHS staff and patients.
