Job summary

Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA, seeks a full-time Sterile Processing Tech for day shift (6:30am–3pm). You will clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize and distribute reusable instruments, ensuring sterility and patient safety. CRCST certification required within 18 months, or eligible per guidelines; high school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring proper functionality and sterility.
• Collect used and contaminated equipment for sorting and decontamination.
• Manually clean supplies, remove waste, and operate decontamination equipment.
• Prepare and pack decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
• Monitor and operate sterilization equipment.
• Serve as a preceptor for new employees.
• Examine supplies to ensure proper cleaning and sanitation.
• Test and report issues with sterilization equipment.
• Sterilize, wrap and organize equipment into trays for procedures.
• Prepare and deliver equipment and instruments for surgeries and procedures.
• Maintain records of sterilization processes and inventory.
• Control inventory, reorder supplies and check expiration dates.

Job Duties:

Responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instruments and medical equipment, ensuring their proper functionality and sterility to prevent infection within a healthcare facility, adhering to strict guidelines and protocols established by regulatory agencies.

• Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
• Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
• Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization.
• Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
• Acts as a preceptor new employees.
• Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
• Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
• Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
• Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts.
• Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
• Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
