Job summary

The University of Kansas Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the operating room and ancillary areas. Under the Sterile Processing Manager, you will decontaminate, assemble and sterilize instruments according to standards and document the process.

Evening shift, Mon-Fri 3:00PM-11:30PM. Requires CRCST certification within 1 year and either Sterile Processing Tech experience or enrollment in a related program; HS diploma or GED accepted. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist experience, or enrollment/completion of Sterile Processing Certification or Surgical Tech program.
• CRCST certification within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes instrumentation per national guidelines and internal standards.
• Operates departmental equipment within policies and procedures.
• Maintains quality control with documentation of sterilization processes.
• Communicates customer needs within department and with customers.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
• Identifies instrumentation and equipment in all customer areas.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
• Ensures professional, clinical and technical competencies of the unit are met.
• May vary by department; other duties may be assigned.

Job description

Position Summary / Career Interest:

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager, the Sterile Processing Technician processes the instrumentation utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. The role provides and customer-focused service to all Health System team members, leadership and medical staff and to the patients/visitors.

Hours for this position are Mon-Fri 3:00PM-11:30PM

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

• Decontaminates, assembles and sterilizes instrumentation according to national guidelines and internal standards.
• Operates departmental equipment within appropriate guidelines/policies/procedures.
• Demonstrates high levels of quality control by following departmental policies/procedures and thorough documentation of sterilization process.
• Effectively prioritizes and communicates customer needs within the department and with customers.
• Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Understands and identifies instrumentation and equipment utilized in all customer areas.
• Performs other assigned duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager related to Sterile Processing.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

• High School Graduate or GED
• Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technologist experience or current enrollment or completion of a Sterile Processing Certification or Surgical Tech program

Required Licensure and Certification

• Certified Registered Central Service Technician(CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 1 Year

Preferred Licensure and Certification

• Certified Registered Central Service Technician(CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) upon Hire
• Certificate or Degree from a Surgical Tech Program
