Job summary

Ascension is seeking a Central Service Technician specializing in Sterile Processing to join the Mequon facility's Sterile Processing team. In this full-time evening shift, you will decontaminate and prepare surgical inventory, inspect instrument sets, operate sterilization equipment, and build accurate case carts to support operating room workflows.

Qualifications include IA HCSMM or CBSPD certification preferred, and a high school diploma or equivalent (or 1 year of related experience).

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent or 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience.
  • IAHCSMM or CBSPD Sterile Processing certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and prepare surgical inventory according to manufacturers' instructions and safety standards.
  • Inspect, assemble and validate instrument sets to ensure reliable tools for the operating room.
  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment to maintain cleanliness and infection control.
  • Build accurate surgical case carts and manage inventory to support smooth OR workflows.
  • Participate in peer quality audits to elevate team performance and quality standards.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent / 1 year related experience
IAHCSMM or CBSPD Sterile Processing certification preferred

How you’ll make an impact in this role
  • Decontaminate and prepare surgical inventory according to precise manufacturer instructions (IFUs) and rigorous safety standards, directly safeguarding patient safety before every procedure.

  • Inspect, assemble, and validate instrument sets with precision, taking ownership of quality checks and repairs so surgical teams have complete, reliable tools ready in the operating room.

  • Operate and monitor advanced sterilization equipment to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, functionality, and infection control across all surgical containers.

  • Build accurate surgical case carts by proactively managing inventory levels and tracking instrument sets, ensuring smooth operating room workflows and zero surgical delays.

  • Elevate team performance and quality standards by participating in peer quality assurance audits, fostering a collaborative culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.

What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the InternationalAssociation of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) Preferred.

  • Central Service Tech specializing in Sterile Processing credentialed from the Certification Boardfor Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) Preferred.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

  • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
