Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our hospital team on a full-time evening shift (2:30 PM - 11:00 PM) with rotating weekends and holidays. Responsibilities include receiving, reprocessing, and distributing clean and sterile supplies, and maintaining CPR carts and isolation cabinets.

The role covers decontamination, preparation, sterilization and dispatch of instruments for OR, OB, Cardiology, ED/Trauma, and Nursing units, with clerical duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and restocks CPR carts.
• Performs all duties according to department policies and procedures.
• Operates all departmental equipment and performs operator maintenance.
• Performs all assigned clerical duties, such as answering the telephone, recording messages, and maintaining records.
• Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and working order for the Operating Room, OB, and other departments.
• Maintains working knowledge of all products in stock and their appropriate locations.
• Prepares and assembles special items, trays, and packs to meet the stated needs of all hospital departments.
• Prepares case carts for the Operating Room.
• Performs all duties related to decontamination, preparation, sterilization/disinfection, and dispatch of instruments, equipment, and supplies for the Operating Room, OB, Cardiology, ED/Trauma, and Nursing and ancillary departments.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of sterilization techniques.

Eligible new hires may receive up to $5,000 in sign-on bonuses over two years—$5,000 for certified technicians, or $2,500 for non-certified technicians, with an additional $2,500 awarded upon certification.
