Job summary

Animas Surgical Hospital in Durango, CO is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech responsible for processing, cleaning, inspecting, and assembling instrument sets, and ensuring readiness for OR procedures. The role emphasizes accuracy, memorization, and adherence to safety standards.

Experience in healthcare settings is preferred; HS diploma or GED required, CSPDT/CRCST preferred. Hourly rate posted reflects market compensation and reflects ongoing commitment to quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • CSPDT or CRCST certification preferred.
  • Two to three years’ experience in healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for sterile processing of instruments, equipment and supplies.
  • Collects, cleans, Inspects and reassembles instrument sets.
  • Knowledgeable and maintains competency in the cleaning and processing of sterile equipment, supplies and instruments.
  • Reviews operating room schedules, anticipating needs and/or conflicts with instrumentation or equipment.
  • Prepares items for sterilization based on knowledge of sterilization methods required for specific instruments/equipment.
  • Properly identifies and delivers the correct items, in a timely fashion to appropriate areas including OR’s, procedure rooms or physician office locations if needed and requested.
  • Prepares packs of supplies, instruments, dressing and treatment trays, according to designated lists or codes, and wraps, labels, and seals packs according to standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.

Job Summary:

Responsible for maintaining and providing sterile instruments and supplies for surgery. Requires memorization skills and attention to detail.

Reports To:

Surgical Services, Director | Surgical Services, Supervisor | Sterile Processing, Supervisor/Lead

Hourly Rate:

$20.65-30.66 (hourly rate does not include overtime or bonuses which are not guaranteed)

Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for sterile processing of instruments, equipment and supplies

Education:

High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience. CSPDT or CRCST preferred.

Experience:

Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in a healthcare setting preferred

Physical Requirements

Must be able to see in order to read, write, and perform clerical/secretarial job duties. Must be able to hear and speak in order to communicate with others in person and by telephone. Must have manual dexterity to use a computer keyboard and other usual office equipment. Light to moderate physical effort may be required to lift, push and pull carts.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.

Animas Health Immunizations and Vaccinations Requirements

Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel

  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening -Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months

*Vaccine records or evidence of immunity are required prior to 1 st day of scheduled work.
