Job summary

Cookeville Regional Medical Center is hiring a Sterile Processing Technician to maintain sterile supplies and support the operating room by decontaminating, processing, and sterilizing instruments. You will prepare supplies for cases, maintain the sterile field, and hand instruments to the surgeon while adhering to infection control practices.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, Sterile Processing Tech Certification within two years of hire, and proficiency in English with good math

Responsibilities

• Maintain stock and order necessary supplies.
• Decontaminate, clean, process and sterilize instruments and equipment per infection control standards.
• Prepare supplies for cases, set up and maintain sterile field, pass instruments to surgeon, ready instruments for cleaning/re-sterilization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Sterile Processing Technicianis responsible for maintaining stock and ordering necessary supplies, decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies, instruments and equipment dispensed by the department following infection control practices.. In addition is responsible for preparing supplies for cases, setting up and maintaining the sterile field, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon, readying used instruments for the cleaning and re-sterilization process. Has completed all necessary educational and testing requirements for national certification. Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and all duties relative to the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required. Sterile Processing Tech Certification required within two years of hire

Experience

Knowledge of medical terminology and medical equipment and supplies. Minimum of 1-year previous experience as Sterile Processing/Surgical Scrub Technician preferred but not required. Must speak, read and write English well. Good math skills.
