Sterile Processing Technician - WHITE PLAINS, NY

The Central Service Technician II is certified as either a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT) and is responsible for ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment are properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked in a quality and timely manner throughout the hospital. Works independently with little supervision, qualified to train others, and serves as a resource to Central Processing customers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and adhere to the hospital's Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities of the position.
  • Apply knowledge of current department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings to stay updated on current issues.
  • Complete annual competency requirements and document appropriately.
  • Follow all hospital policies including dress code, conduct, customer service, attendance, and physical requirements.
  • Handle, operate, and troubleshoot cleaning and sterilization equipment; maintain safety standards.
  • Properly assemble, wrap, label, and inspect instruments.
  • Handle and store sterile supplies and equipment correctly.
  • Select and verify appropriate sterilization methods, document sterilization loads, and biological tests.
  • Track and disburse medical supplies and equipment efficiently.
  • Operate specific CP equipment like sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, etc.
  • Manage supply ordering, receiving, stocking, and usage monitoring.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Serve as a resource to customers regarding Central Processing functions.
  • Perform other related duties and track progress on training and education.
  • Distribute and restock medical supplies.
  • Transport patients as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work environment.
  • Apply infection control knowledge.
  • Complete 10 Continuing Education Credits annually and submit documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certification as CRCST or CSPDT required or grandfathered (with specific work history).
  • Experience in Central Supply or Operating Room instrument processing preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical technology preferred.
