Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support decontamination, sterilization, packaging and distribution of surgical instruments. The role requires adherence to AORN/AAMI/Joint Commission standards and precise instrument handling.

Qualified candidates hold a sterile processing certification (CRCST/CSPD) and a High School diploma, with the ability to lift 25 pounds and communicate effectively in English.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) OR provisional certification (CRCST), required.
• Must complete minimum annual continuing education credits required by NY State.
• Prior experience processing surgical instruments, preferred.
• Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds, required; stand/bend/reach for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Disassembles, cleans, sterilizes, reassembles and packages sterile supplies according to specs.
• Operates washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and EO sterilizers and related equipment.
• Adheres to instrument count sheets and sterilization guidelines.
• Follows safety protocols to prevent injuries and maintain a contaminant-free environment.
• Retrieves used trays and equipment for decontamination; transports sterile supplies to locations.
• Documents daily activities and communicates with perioperative staff regarding instrument needs.
