Job summary

Albany Med Health System is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join the day shift in the Sterile Processing department. Responsibilities include retrieval, decontamination, assembly, packaging of delicate instrumentation, sterilization, and distribution to the operating room, with rotation through all area functions.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, certification in sterile processing, and a commitment to 10 CEUs per year.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent with sterile processing certification.
• Must maintain 10 CEUs per year per NYS law.
• Entry level; 1–3 years preferred; prior sterile processing/OR support experience welcome.
• Commit to certification by CBSPD or IAHCSMM within 18 months of hire.
• Strong attention to detail, safety, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Operates necessary equipment; prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments per standards.
• Maintains records and monitors quality control and infection control.
• Handles and cares for instruments; selects cleaning agents and ensures function.
• Peel-packs and wraps instruments; inspects for use, function, and cleanliness.
• Coordinates with Materials Dept to maintain PAR levels.
• Communicates with OR staff to provide required instruments.
• Reports damaged equipment and follows replacement procedures.
• Assists nursing staff with sterilization techniques and serves as a resource.
