Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech for the Clifton Springs, NY location. This part-time role (20 hours weekly) covers days, with shifts including Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 7am–3:30pm, in the Sterile Processing Department.

You will process, decontaminate, pack, sterilize, and distribute sterile goods for hospital use while maintaining equipment and supplies and ensuring compliance with department policies.

Qualifications

• CRCST or CSPDT certification required.
• Grandfathering evidence of 1 year in CS in healthcare between 2011–2015.
• Central Service Technician certification within 18 months of hire if not grandfathered.
• Provisional IAHCSMM certification requires full certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Process and supply sterile goods and equipment to hospital areas (decontamination, gleaming, packing, sterilizing, storing, distribution).
• Maintain supplies used in sterilizing items; notify appropriate parties for replenishment.
• Distribute supplies and equipment throughout hospital and affiliates as ordered.
• Follow department policies and keep areas clean, organized, and stocked.
• Collect and clean soiled equipment and machines; maintain clean carts and shelves; use PPE as required.
• Transport medications from crash cart to pharmacy.

DEPARTMENT:

Sterile Processing Dept

SCHEDULE:

20 Hrs Weekly; Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 7am - 330pm

Key Responsbilities:

• Responsible for processing and supplying sterile goods and equipment to all areas within the hospital, including decontamination, gleaning, packing, sterilizing, storing, and distribution.
• Maintains appropriate supplies used in the process of sterilizing items for use in the hospital and any other institution or organization deemed appropriate by the administrative staff.
• Reports any supply not readily available to appropriate parties for replenishment.
• Distributes needed supplies and equipment throughout the hospital and affiliates as ordered.
• Follows all department policies and procedures when distributing supplies and equipment.
• Keeps assigned areas clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary supplies.
• Collects and cleans soiled equipment and machines, and maintains clean carts and shelves on floors, utilizing appropriate protective equipment and attire.
• Transport medications from crash cart to pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam and holds and maintains one of the following credentials:
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician credential
• Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician credential
• -OR-
• Grand-fathering Clause: Must provide evidence of employment or contract services as a Central Service Technician in a health care facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 1/1/2011 - 1/1/2015.

Required License/Certification Skills:

• Central Service Technician certification required within 18 months of hire if does not meet grand-fathering requirements.
• Sterile Processing certification required within 18 months after employment if Hard to Fill clause is utilized
• Employees with Provisional Certification from IAHCSMM must obtain complete certification within 6 months from hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Heavy - This category includes physically intensive work such as lifting heavy materials (up to 100 lbs.), climbing ladders, crawling into tight spaces, and working on uneven, slippery, or elevated surfaces. Employees must demonstrate strong motor coordination, balance, and spatial awareness to safely operate tools and equipment. High visual and auditory alertness is required, especially in areas with moving machinery. Emotional demands are moderate, focusing on hazard recognition, task accuracy, and adherence to safety standards. Environmental exposures may include extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, loud noise, and mechanical hazards. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and periodic physical examinations are often required.
