Job summary

SGMC Health in Valdosta, GA is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for the Main Campus, Sterile Processing department. The role supports instrument handling, decontamination, and sterilization for perioperative services and hospital-wide needs.

The position requires HS diploma; CSPT encouraged after 12 months and prior OR instrument experience is a plus. Evening shift, 1100-1930 with call, full-time, on-site at SGMC Health.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• CSPT certification encouraged after 12 months of full-time employment performing SPT activities.
• One year of experience preferred demonstrating dependability, reliability, and customer service skills.
• OR experience preferred to include processing surgical instruments.
• Ability to read, write, perform simple math, and follow written/verbal instructions.
• Knowledge of infection prevention, asepsis, and sterility.
• Knowledge of diseases and health care needs of patient population served.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instrument and equipment handling in OR areas and central sterilization.
• Assemble, maintain, and ensure functionality of surgical instruments; prepare case carts.
• Prepare specialty trays for various departments; adhere to Infection Control policies.
• Work as part of a unit-based, multi-disciplinary team; monitor performance and patient safety.
• Adhere to department/hospital policies and performance improvement initiatives.
