Job summary

Overview

North Central Surgical Center is a Baylor Scott & White affiliated hospital located in Dallas, TX. It is a surgical focused hospital that performs over 12,000 procedures per year. The center has 14 operating rooms and 30 patient rooms and specializes in orthopedics, spine, general surgery, pain management, urology, GI/endoscopy, plastic and podiatry surgeries.

The North Central Surgical Center seeks a Full-Time Lead Certified Sterile Processing Technician for the night shift. The position is eligible for the full-time benefits package.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a resource for the SPD department.
  • Precepts new hires.
  • Ensures unit techs are properly decontaminating the area.
  • Manages the instrument room daily.
  • Maintains inventory of instrumentation and supplies for smooth functioning of the instrument room.
  • Maintains purchased and/or borrowed implant sets.
  • Communicates and works effectively with all personnel, physicians, and hospital departments.
  • Demonstrates dependability and accountability.
  • Pursues continued growth and education.
  • Sterilizes instruments, equipment, utensils, linen and supplies using various autoclaves and aerators.
  • Assembles and wraps material, instruments and supplies according to established aseptic technique.
  • Pulls supplies and instruments for all surgical cases.
  • Disassembles and cleans equipment using approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps and cleaners.
  • Reassembles equipment after cleaning and tests for proper functioning; replaces lost or damaged parts.
Qualifications
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience as an instrument room technician.
  • Minimum of one year in a lead or supervisor role.
  • Experience with all types of sterilizers.
  • Knowledge of operating room instrumentation.
  • Organized in setting up operating room instrument trays.
  • Understanding of steam/gravity sterilizer operation.
  • Understanding of Sterrad sterilizers.
  • Ability to prepare reports and keep records.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items.
