Job summary

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, is hiring a Sterile Processing Tech – Lead to ensure correct instrumentation for surgical cases and timely same-day turn-overs. The ideal candidate will be CRCST certified and capable of guiding CSPD staff as needed.

Role is on-site with a Monday–Friday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. shift; responsibilities include decontamination, prep & pack, and documenting sterilization records while collaborating with surgical services.

Qualifications

• CRCST certification is required for the role.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in CSPD is not required but desirable (<2 years acceptable).

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instrument sets and trays according to surgery schedule.
• Troubleshoots steam sterilizers and maintains sterility documentation.
• Coordinates between surgical services and central sterile processing.
• Trains and guides staff; acts as charge person when supervisor is absent.

Additional Information About the Role

We are hiring for a Sterile Processing Tech – Lead for the Barnes‑Jewish West County Hospital. As a lead tech, you will be responsible for ensuring all our surgical cases have the correct instrumentation for every case as well as ensuring that same day turn‑overs are completed on time. Our ideal candidate will be a Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST).

• Monday-Friday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
• Evening Shift
• Must be Certified

Barnes‑Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. Barnes‑Jewish West County Central Sterile Processing Department provides a service that is an integral part of the quality of care that we provide for our patients. We ensure the integrity and sterility of our products and services for our customers. We control all parts of the sterilization process: decontamination, prep & pack, documentation of sterilization records, and sterile storage.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Assists the supervisor in providing quality, cost-effective decontamination, sterilization, and distribution services. Trains and directs CSPD staff, problem solves equipment failures and functions as a charge person in the absence of the Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and processes instrument sets, trays, supplies and linen; prioritizes trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule.
• Utilizes and troubleshoots steam sterilizers.
• Serves as the primary coordinator between surgical services and central supply sterile processing department in assigned clinical service area.
• Provides training and guidance to staff.
