Overview

The Perioperative Services team works in a fast‑paced environment that tests professional judgment and critical thinking skills, providing support during pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and post‑operative phases. Team members assist world‑renowned surgeons and anesthesiologists on complex procedures, utilizing the latest technologies and treatments, and play a vital role in developing new procedures and protocols.

Role Purpose

Function as a team member in the operating room to support medical and nursing staff during the pre, intra, and postoperative phase, including preparing equipment and supplies for use, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and reusable supplies, assembling case carts/trays, and performing direct patient care as needed. Serve as a high‑functioning member of a team supporting clinics, procedural areas, and over 65 operating rooms, handling complex tray configurations across multiple specialties.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize and troubleshoot steam sterilizers; use the operating room management system to build case carts for just‑in‑time delivery, notifying lead or supervisor of priority needs.
  • Follow proper techniques and procedures to ensure the integrity of the sterilization process; troubleshoot steam and low‑temperature sterilizer malfunctions and notify engineering for repairs.
  • Clean, inspect, disinfect, and sterilize a variety of complex surgical instrumentation, implants, and power equipment in a 24/7 fast‑paced environment.
  • Disassemble, decontaminate, and process instrumentation according to manufacturer and industry standards; scan and document set contents and completion for all trays per protocols, ensuring bio‑burden is eliminated and instruments are reassembled correctly.
  • Provide cleaning and sterilization support for research‑related and IRB‑approved instrumentation; perform all decontamination and high‑level disinfection for flexible endoscopes, supporting over 1,000 processes monthly.
  • Transport case carts and related materials to appropriate hospital areas, preventing cross‑contamination.
  • Prioritize trays and tasks according to the surgery schedule; assemble instrumentation and power equipment for various specialties, including ophthalmology, neurosurgery, ENT, trauma, transplant, cardiac, orthopedic, labor & delivery, fetal surgery, general surgery, minimally invasive, and robotic cases.
  • Operate as part of a safety‑sensitive position, maintaining constant alertness and safe work practices.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: < 2 years
  • Supervisor Experience: No Experience
  • Licenses & Certifications: Cert/Lic in Area of Expertise
  • Preferred Requirements
    • Experience: 2-5 years
