Qualifications

• Knowledge of sterilization supplies, equipment and instruments.
• Knowledge of organizing, containing, and transporting items of varying compounds, textures or quantities.
• Knowledge of transporting and disposing of hazardous materials and sharp objects according to hospital procedures.
• Knowledge of sterilization procedures of various equipment and instruments.
• Knowledge of wrapping and repackaging sterilized instruments.

Responsibilities

• Promote the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
• Collect dirty equipment and instruments.
• Sort, load, unload and decontaminate equipment and instruments according to procedures.
• Clean, repackage, and sterilize instruments according to procedures.
• Assemble trays, basin sets, packages, instruments and equipment and prepare items for sterilization.
• Decontaminate, restock and assembly case carts and surgical trays.
• Ensure specialty carts are stocked and ready for immediate use.
• Perform quality control through routine testing and cleaning to assure sterilization equipment and instruments are functioning properly.
• Inspect equipment, instruments, and packaging for cleanliness, defects and/or malfunctions.
• Document sterilization cycle.
• Label products with sterilization date.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.
• Perform weekly inspections of all sterile items in the OR department
• Check outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilize processing area
• Maintain and update the instruments tray inventory list following policies and procedures.
• Serve as a resource person in the department by training and developing new staff
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff
• Complete all additional assigned educational requirements
