Job summary

The Sterile Processing Technician I at Medical University of South Carolina reports to the Nurse Manager and performs instrument processing, decontamination, sterilization, and case assembly in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.

With at least 1 year of SPD experience and active CRCST/CBSPD certification, you will work under supervision in a fast-paced health care environment, contributing to patient safety and departmental efficiency.

Job Description

The Sterile Processing Technician reports to the Manager of Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements.

Minimum Training and Education
  • Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination.
  • Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes.
  • Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Detail-oriented required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as SPD Tech.
Certifications

Must have certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management).

Additional Job Description
  • High School Diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of sterile processing experience, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting.
  • Successful completion of the department's internal written and practical exam, as well as meeting required performance and productivity standards, is required to attain and maintain Sterile Processing II status.
