Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to decontaminate, clean, assemble, sterilize, and distribute instruments for patient care areas.

The role emphasizes adherence to regulatory standards, infection control, and documentation of sterilization cycles, with opportunities to train new staff and support continuous operations. A sign-on bonus is available for eligible new hires.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required at hire.
• At least 1 year of experience in sterile processing.

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort contaminated instruments and equipment from various departments.
• Disassemble instruments and clean them using appropriate agents and equipment.
• Inspect cleaned instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.
• Assemble instrument sets according to count sheets and tray lists.
• Wrap or package instruments for sterilization.
• Monitor sterilization cycles and verify parameters meet standards.
• Follow safety and infection control policies and use PPE.
• Operate and maintain automated washing and decontamination equipment.
• Load and operate sterilization equipment and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Document sterilization cycles and maintain records.
• Deliver sterile items to requesting departments and prioritize urgent requests.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Assist in training new employees on procedures and equipment.

Education

High school diploma/GED
