Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech to decontaminate, clean, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments. You will ensure proper processing, maintain safety standards, and support patient care areas with timely delivery of sterile items.

Requires CRCST or CSPDT at hire, or CST/TSC license. A minimum of 1 year sterile processing experience is preferred; incumbents have 18 months to meet qualifications if currently employed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required at hire (does not apply to Sterile Processing Technicians employed before 12/29/2020).
• A Surgical Technologist with CST or TSC license meets license requirement.
• 1 year of experience with sterile processing.
• Incumbents not meeting minimum requirements have 18 months to obtain qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort contaminated instruments from departments.
• Disassemble and clean instruments using appropriate agents and equipment.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.
• Assemble instrument sets per count sheets and tray lists.
• Wrap or package instruments for sterilization.
• Monitor sterilization cycles and interpret printouts for parameters.
• Follow safety and infection control policies and wear PPE.
• Operate and maintain automated cleaning/decontamination equipment.
• Load and operate sterilization equipment and troubleshoot minor issues.
• Document sterilization cycles and keep records accurately.
• Deliver sterile items to requesting departments promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment.
• Assist in training new staff on procedures and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
