Job summary

Nebraska Methodist Health System in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the OR and OPS by cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing instruments and supplies. The role involves following strict safety and infection-control procedures, maintaining records, and coordinating with departments to ensure timely delivery.

The position features a Mon-Fri schedule, 12:00pm–8:30pm with rotating call on weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–2 years sterile processing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of decontamination of surgical instruments preferred.
• Ability to read, follow recipe sheets and comply with infection control policies.

Responsibilities

• Sort, disassemble, clean, and disinfect contaminated instruments per Universal Barrier Precautions.
• Prepare instrument sets and replace damaged items as needed; perform quality checks on cleanliness and function.
• Perform sterile linen processing and packaging as directed by recipe sheets and policy.
• Load sterilization carts, operate steam, EO and gas plasma sterilizers, and interpret indicators.
• Maintain accurate sterilization records and equipment logs; track loads and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Distribute instrument sets to departments in a timely manner; coordinate with OR/OPS.
• Perform UV cleaning of used equipment.
