Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our Sterile Processing Department (SPD). The role involves cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization/high level disinfection, monitoring environmental conditions, and preparing case and emergency carts for surgical teams.

Qualified candidates will have a High School diploma or GED, CRCST or CBSPDT certification, and experience with STERRAD sterilization. Strong communication and computer skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office/Google Suite).

Responsibilities

• Assists in processing of instruments, trays, and case carts; operates Decontamination and Processing equipment.
• Checks expiration dates and removes outdated items.
• Maintains courteous phone etiquette for OR Hotline and unit calls.
• Conducts daily soil rounds, returning items to SPD for processing.
• Performs decontamination duties and manages workflow in the Decontamination area.
• Records all processed loads and logs Biological indicators; places indicators in incubator for testing.
• Maintains SPD department stock and rotates supplies.
• Oversees daily operations in the supervisor's absence and coordinates team members.
• Operates Sterrad sterilization equipment per manufacturer procedures and Infection Prevention.
• Lifts 30 lbs, pushes/pulls 50 lbs, and stands for long shifts.
• Adheres to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
