Job summary

OhioHealth in Columbus, OH, is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician-Certified to perform decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of surgical instruments and endoscopes. You will prepare instrumentation, monitor sterilizers, and maintain accurate records for operating room cases.

The role requires CBSPD/IAHCSMM certifications, an associate degree or equivalent, strong customer service, and teamwork in a high-reliability environment. Evening shift with 40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, disinfect, and clean various reusable surgical instruments, using mechanical or handwashing methods.
• Operate and monitor steam and chemical sterilization processes and document results.
• Prepare and package instrumentation, perform quality control testing, and maintain records.
• Assist with scheduling and instrument case preparation; retrieve instruments for cases.
• Support stocking, cleaning, phone coverage, transport of supplies, and training peers.

They are responsible for the preparation and packaging of instrumentation, quality control testing and monitoring of sterilization equipment, maintaining records and preparation of surgical cases. Assigned duties may also include stocking, cleaning, answering phones, transporting supplies, training peers on industry best practices and providing direct customer service to both operating rooms and external customers.Responsibilities And Duties:Responsible for the decontamination, disinfection and cleaning or various reusable surgical instruments. This can be done via mechanical or handwashing methods, while strictly adhering to OSHA safety standards.Demonstrate working knowledge of sterilization process and techniques involving both steam and chemical means. This includes appropriate documentation, storage, and transportation. Must have a thorough understanding of the sterilizer mechanical and chemical indicators, as well as the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system.Effectively enters, modifies, and searches for relevant information in the instrument tracking system. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical case preparation. Correctly identifies and retrieves pertinent instruments and supplies for scheduled cases or upon request.Incorporates infection control guidelines while transferring, storing, and transporting sterile packages.Interacts with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEU’sFollows and promotes industry standards and best practices, as supported by AAMI and AORN.Demonstrate strong customer service skills while meeting requests of both the operating rooms and external clinics.
