Job summary

CommonSpirit Health seeks a Certified Sterile Processing Tech to support the OR by ensuring efficient sterilization workflows and patient safety. You will oversee decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments while maintaining precise documentation and regulatory compliance.

You will monitor equipment, uphold AAMI/AORN/Joint Commission/OSHA standards, and mentor non-certified staff. A strong safety mindset and meticulous attention to detail are essential for success.

Qualifications

• CRCST or CSPDT certification is required.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Six months of experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards is essential.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles and wraps supplies and instruments.
• Packages items to promote successful sterilization.
• Follows practices for cleaning and care of surgical instruments and powered equipment.
• Adheres to single-use device reprocessing guidelines and FDA instructions.
• Sterilizes supplies using prescribed methods (steam, Sterrad, etc.).
• Operates washer/decontaminator per department policy.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Sterile Processing Tech, you will promote improved quality and patient safety in the OR by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department, performing routine tasks related to decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and supplies.

Every day you will operate and monitor sterilization equipment, maintain meticulous records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards. You will also maintain your certification, monitor/instruct/mentor non-certified staff, and actively facilitate the department's preparation for survey/regulatory assessments, contributing to a culture of patient safety.

To be successful in this role, you will be a Certified Sterile Processing Technician with meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of safety and compliance standards, and a commitment to ensuring quality and patient safety in the OR.

• Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and wraps or packages supplies and instruments using proper techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of how items to be sterilized should be packaged in a manner that promotes successful sterilization.
• Understands the recommended practices for cleaning and care of surgical instruments and powered equipment and the device manufacturer's validated and written instructions for use.
• Understands that devices labeled as single-use should not be reprocessed unless the FDA guideline for reprocessing of singleuse devices can be met.
• Sterilizes supplies and instruments using the prescribed method (e.g. steam, gas plasma (Sterrad).
• Operates washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure.
